Greens MP Julie Anne Genter has revealed her remarkable story about going into labour and giving birth to a baby girl.
Sharing the news on her Facebook page, she posted photos showing the impressive and remarkable birth story where she is seen riding into the hospital.
She revealed it wasn't her plan to cycle while in labour in the middle of the night.
"Big news! At 3:04am this morning [Sunday], we welcomed the newest member of our family," the Green MP wrote on Facebook. "I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in labour, but it did end up happening.
"My contractions weren’t that bad when we left at 2am to go to the hospital - though they were 2-3 min apart and picking up in intensity by the time we arrived 10 minutes later. (I'm smiling in the car park right after one)."
Genter said there were no issues with the birth and they have a "healthy" little baby girl.
"And amazingly now we have a healthy, happy little one sleeping, as is her dad," she says "Feeling blessed to have had excellent care and support from a great team, in what turned out to be a very fast (and happily uncomplicated) birth."
The way Genter gave birth is almost fitting as the Green MP is a vocal advocate for safer streets for cycling and for bike riding as a widespread transport method.
Social media users were impressed by the Greens MP and congratulated her on her fairly unique birthing story.
"What a fantastic memory you both created getting to the hospital! Congratulations to you both," one user said while another said, "Wow, cycling in labour… am not sure I could have done that".
