An investigation has been launched after an Auckland woman was found with a "serious gunshot wound" at a New Lynn property overnight.
Police were called to the property in the west Auckland suburb at around 12am and located the woman, who had been shot, Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie from Waitemata Police said on Monday morning.
The woman was taken to Auckland Hospital and remains in a critical condition.
A 26-year-old male has been arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm.
"He is assisting us with our ongoing enquiries," Det Snr Sgt Goldie said.
"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter."
