Manhunt underway for two people allegedly involved in New Plymouth stabbing

A manhunt is underway for two people after a person was critically injured in a stabbing in New Plymouth at the weekend.

At 2:25pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Cook St in the suburb of Marfell where a 19-year-old man had been stabbed. He had critical injuries and was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital.

Police said a search is underway for 37-year-old Tema Ratana and 27-year-old Mihiata Morgan, both of New Plymouth. Stuff reported they are wanted over the stabbing.  

"Ratana and Morgan are believed to be travelling in a grey 2013 Mercedes van, registration MWU467," police said.

"It is believed the couple have been in the Tauranga area.

"Ratana and Morgan should not be approached."
