An investigation has been launched following the death of a five-year-old boy on Friday morning.
On November 1, emergency services were called to a residential property in the rural Bay of Plenty community of Te Puna after the boy was found with injuries. He was initially treated at Tauranga Hospital before being airlifted to Auckland.
In a statement, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Rawlinson confirmed the boy died at Starship Children's Hospital on Friday morning.
The death is being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem is due to be carried out, Det Snr Sgt Rawlinson said.
The investigation is now underway.
"Police expect to be in a position to provide a further update once the post-mortem has been completed," he said.
