The 16-year-old who died following a firearms incident in the Christchurch suburb of Casebrook on Friday has been named as Connor Whitehead.
A homicide probe was launched after Whitehead, of Northcote, was found dead at the Casebrook house. Neighbours reported a party before hearing shouting and swearing after the gunshots.
An arrest has now been made and authorities believe they know who was involved in Whitehead's death, a police statement said.
"On Saturday night police arrested a 46-year-old male who was assisting the people directly involved," said the statement.
"He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow [Monday]."
"This should serve as a warning to anyone who may be assisting those involved. Officers continue to carry out a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident, including identifying and speaking to those in the area at the time.
"Police extend our sympathies to his whānau, and we are providing them with support alongside Victim Support."
A Givealittle page has been set up to support the family of the 16-year-old boy, set up by Whitehead's cousin.
The page describes Whitehead as "a much-loved brother, nephew, cousin, friend, grandson and son. Connor Whitehead was taken tragically and unexpectedly from us in an incident on the night of November 5 2021.
