The Ministry of Health has reported another five cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in managed isolation (MIQ) and 55 infections in the community.
There are now 13 cases of Omicron in New Zealand.
"Health and MIQ teams have been carefully planning for Omicron cases at the border and will continue to manage all arrivals cautiously," the ministry said in a statement.
"This includes isolation and testing requirements for all new arrivals, robust infection and prevention control and PPE measures at airports and MIQ facilities and frequent surveillance testing of staff who have any contact with recent international returnees.
"New precautions set out that whole genome sequencing on all new border cases of COVID-19 is undertaken rapidly to identify any new cases of the Omicron variant."
The ministry said the latest community infections are in Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Taranaki.
There are 56 people in hospital with COVID-19, six of whom are in intensive care (ICU).
Of the people in hospital, 26 are in Auckland, 15 in Middlemore, 10 in North Shore, three in Tauranga and two in Waikato, the ministry said.
The average age of people in hospital with COVID-19 remains at 53.
So far there have been nine new COVID-19 locations of interest revealed on Sunday - all in Tauranga.
The city's Cafe Demitasse has been listed as a "close contact" location. Anyone who was there between 12:58pm and 2:20pm on Wednesday is being told to self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19 immediately.
