A Hastings primary school student has amused his peers and teachers by ditching his uniform and wearing a superhero costume every day for the past week.

Arlo, a seven-year-old from Hastings Central School, told his teacher of his intentions to wear a superhero outfit for one day last week. Little did his teacher know it would turn into a whole week of rocking superhero costumes.

"He was just having a conversation with his teacher. He asked her, 'Should I wear my costume to school [tomorrow]?' And she's like, 'Yeah, of course' - without realising he had a whole bunch of costumes,'" Arlo's aunty Tiana Cherish said.

"It got to the point when his teachers and his principal were like, 'I wonder what Arlo's going to be today?' They encouraged him - they didn't mind."

She said Arlo's gag had spread lots of smiles and laughter throughout the school.

"I just thought it was really funny and really cool because all the kids were so oblivious and they just supported him and went along with it."

Cherish shared photos of all of Arlo's costumes with Newshub.

"The teachers have absolutely adored him," she said. "It's been so lovely."

And luckily for Arlo, he won't have to resort back to his school uniform anytime soon - Tuesday is their last day before the Christmas break.
