Emergency services in Rotorua have attended fires at a rest home and motel in the past 24 hours, one of which resulted in a person in critical condition.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) spokesperson said firefighters were called to the Golden Glow Motel on Fenton St at 11:21am on Thursday.
"It was well involved in fire when we arrived," the spokesperson told Newshub.
Five fire trucks attended the blaze and successfully extinguished it.
A video of the fire was filmed by Leon Ritchie and sent to Newshub showing thick black smoke pouring out of the building.
"Whoa, look at this. Oh that's still going hardcore," he says in the video, before adding: "Explosions are happening now."
The blaze took place just hours after another fire in Rotorua left a person in critical condition. Emergency services were called to rest home Cantabria Lifecare and Village at about 10pm on Wednesday night.
FENZ described that as a bedroom fire which was already out by the time firefighters arrived.
"We had two crews in attendance and sadly one person has sustained burns," the spokesperson confirmed.
