Two people have died following serious crashes in the Waikato and Otago regions on Christmas morning.
At around 9:20am, a motorbike crashed in the rural Waikato town of Gordonton, seriously injuring the rider.
In an update on Saturday afternoon, a police spokesperson confirmed the motorcyclist died at the scene.
"One person has died following the earlier serious crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Broadley Downs and Gordonton Rd," the spokesperson said.
The road, which was closed following the crash, has since reopened.
Meanwhile, another person has died following a collision between a car and a truck on State Highway 1 in Waihola.
The Taieri Plains Highway/State Highway 1 - located between Dunedin and Milton - was closed after the crash, which occurred just north of the Titri Rd intersection at about 9:15am.
In an update, police confirmed the driver of the vehicle has died.
"One person has died following the earlier serious crash involving a car and a truck on SH1/Taieri Plains Highway, Waihola," the spokesperson said.
"The driver of the car died at the scene."
Diversions remain in place at either end of Titri Rd and motorists are asked to avoid travelling the state highway route if possible.
