A man has started the year undergoing emergency surgery after being stabbed in central Auckland.
Two others are also in hospital after a massive fight broke out on Beach Rd early Saturday morning.
"Police were called around 2:30am after reports of an altercation between a large group of people," said Det Snr Sgt Greg Brand.
"A male received what is believed to be stab wounds and is now undergoing emergency surgery in Auckland Hospital. Two others were taken to Auckland Hospital with injuries and are in a stable condition.
He said police will spend Saturday carrying out a scene examination and making enquiries, as well as reviewing CCTV footage.
