Coronavirus: Total booster doses pass half a million, health officials welcome low number of new community infections

There were just 14 new COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday, something health officials are calling "welcome news".

Aside from the daily case numbers, you may have missed the details of the Ministry of Health's latest update.

Here's a breakdown of Tuesday's case numbers and data.

Locations of cases

Of Tuesday's 14 new cases, nine are in Auckland, two each in Northland and Waikato, and one in Wellington.

Northland

One of Northland's two new cases was announced on Monday. The second new case is in Whangārei, with investigations into links to previously reported cases ongoing.

There are no cases in hospital in Northland. The Ministry of Health says their systems over the past two days inadvertently picked up a historical case who had previously been in hospital.

Northland last had a hospitalised COVID-19 patient in November.

Auckland

The exact location of Auckland's cases is not reported by the Ministry of Health.

There are 916 people isolating at home, including 189 cases.

Waikato

Waikato's two new cases are from Coromandel and Te Aroha. One of them is currently unlinked to a previously reported case.

There are 32 cases isolating at home.

Wellington

Wellington's one new case is linked to the Hidden Valley Festival in Matakana, north of Auckland.

Case investigations are ongoing, the Ministry of Health says.

Canterbury

Canterbury's two new cases were reported to the Ministry of Health after the daily cut-off time and will be added to Wednesday's numbers.

The new cases are in south Canterbury and Canterbury.

The south Canterbury case remains under investigation but shares a location of interest with a previously reported case.

The Canterbury case is also under investigation for any link to previously reported cases.
