COVID-19: Long-distance bus trips, burger joint, sports club new 'close contact' locations

Two long-distance bus trips in the North Island have been classified as close contact events for COVID-19 exposure.

The affected journeys are:

  • The InterCity IC6965 bus from Gisborne to Napier, which departed Gisborne at 9.30am on Friday 28 January and arrived in Napier at 1pm on the same day.
  • The InterCity IC6367 bus from Napier to Wellington, which departed Napier at 1.50pm on Friday 28 January and arrived in Wellington at 7.45pm on the same day.

Anyone who was on either of the buses is considered a close contact and is being told to self-isolate and get an immediate test.

Other close contact locations of interest listed today include a sports club in Rotorua and a fast-food restaurant in New Plymouth.

People who played in a group at the Rotorua Badminton Club between 7pm and 9pm on the night of 21 January are considered close contacts of a COVID-19 case, as are people who were indoors at Burger Fuel New Plymouth between 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday, 25 January.

An additional close contact location was listed at 2pm today: Rasoi Indian Restaurant in Napier. People who were at the restaurant between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday 23 January are deemed close contacts of a COVID-19 case.

Those who were at the above locations at the specified times are being asked to self-isolate and to get a COVID-19 test immediately and five days after the exposure event.

Other locations of interest posted on the Ministry of Health's website so far today include cafes, takeaway shops, service stations and airports - all in the North Island.

People who were at the following locations at the specified times are being asked to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for 10 days following exposure and to get tested if they become symptomatic.

  • Riverside Cafe in Whangārei from 9.30am - 10.30am on 24 January

  • Nando's Manukau at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Manukau, Auckland from 11.59am - 1pm on 26 January

  • Woodside Bar in Manukau, Auckland from 6.30pm - 8.30pm on 26 January

  • Gear Meat Pie Company in Gisborne from 3.45pm - 4.15pm on 27 January

  • Tarocash St Lukes at Westfield Mall in Mt Albert, Auckland from 8.58am - 9.15am on 26 January

  • BP Connect in Bulls from 1.45pm - 1.50pm on 27 January

  • Spice Traders in Petone from 5pm - 5.30pm on 21 January

  • BP Connect in Tokoroa from 2.04pm - 2.15pm on 26 January
