The human remains found on Leithfield Beach in north Canterbury on Thursday are yet to be identified, but police say they are of an adult.
In an update on Friday, Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said police were continuing to make enquiries into the remains and are completing searches along the Amberley and Leithfield coastline.
"While Police are yet to identify the remains, we are satisfied the deceased person is an adult," he said.
"Police encourage anyone with concerns or information in relation to this matter to contact us on 105 and quote file number 220106/5800."
Emergency services were notified of the remains by a member of the public just after 8:30am on Thursday.
