Yet another person has died in New Zealand's water this summer - police have confirmed a man thought to be in his 50s has died following a water-related incident at Mt Maunganui.
He was among a group of four swimmers who got into difficulty before being brought to shore by members of the public and surf lifesavers.
The man was unconscious and despite efforts of St John Ambulance paramedics and surf lifesavers, wasn't able to be revived.
Police say the incident was reported to them just after 4.30pm and they are making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the coroner.
