Mt Eden residents 'terrified' to leave homes as Brian Tamaki supporters descend on neighbourhood for fourth day

A Mt Eden local says residents are "terrified" to leave their homes as crowds of Brian Tamaki supporters descend on the area for the fourth day in a row. And he says he's getting no help from authorities.

The controversial Destiny Church leader is remanded in custody at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility until January 27 after his bail application was refused earlier this week.

His supporters flocked to the area on Monday after his arrest and have been camped out ever since.

A man living in an apartment near the corrections facility says he's fed up with the lack of action from police and Auckland Council.

He says protesters have been revving their motorbikes and playing live music late into the night.

"Council noise control won't do anything about it because they say to contact the police, but police say to contact noise control."

He says other residents in his building have been forced to shut all their windows and doors just to keep the noise out.

"In the height of summer they've had to shut their doors. There's no air conditioning in these units and they've got young children. They are terrified."

He said the protesters are blocking access to homes and businesses.

"They've completely blocked off, with tents, access to our house.

"They've got motorbikes roaring off at 12:30am in the morning, live music over 90 decibels - it's just a complete farce."

He said local businesses are also frustrated by protesters using their toilets without permission.

"They are just so over it."

Videos, seen by Newshub, show groups of protesters blaring loud music and yelling. Several motorbikes can also be seen roaring down the street.

It comes after complaints from residents on Wednesday. One local told Newshub Tamaki's supporters were using bushes near the area as toilets and playing loud music.

A police spokesperson told Newhsub they are monitoring the situation.

"We are aware of some concerns raised from local residents in relation to the level of noise by those present and we have been liaising with the Auckland Council and Corrections as well as the organisers," they said.

"Police are not aware of any concerns in relation to criminal behaviour or offences from individuals present at the gathering and we will continue to monitor the situation in case of any issues."

Auckland Council and Destiny Church have been contacted for comment.
