Police search for missing man in Northland

Police have "serious concerns" for the welfare of a missing man near Pipiwai, Northland.

Kukama Waa, 58, was last seen in the bush area near Pipiwai on Wednesday morning and was reported missing later that night.

Police said Waa has a hearing impairment and also has physical and mental impairments.

Waa has been described as Māori, approximately 172cm tall, of large build, bald and recently lost one of his arms. He was last seen wearing blue-coloured tracksuit pants and a red shirt.

A police eagle helicopter has carried out an aerial search of the bush area and police are asking local residents to check their properties.
