Two people have been arrested in relation to an attempted aggravated robbery at a Riccarton fruit and vegetable store in January, while a third is still on the run.
The incident occurred at about 9am on January 23, when three people entered Grower Direct Market on Yaldhurst Rd, Riccarton with what police believe to be a firearm. They attempted to rob the store, police said at the time, but were unsuccessful.
In an update on Monday, police say two people were arrested in relation to the attempted aggravated robbery and will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday on charges relating to assault with intent to rob. A third person is still being sought.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the individuals running into the store, grabbing a number of employees, and forcing them down a corridor. One offender appears to be pointing a gun. While one of the individuals can be seen trying to open a safe, they find it is locked and run away.
Growers Direct Market owner Steven McClintock told Stuff that staff were "traumatised" after the event, but no one was seriously hurt.
Police said there were customers in the store at the time, but no one was harmed. After the robbery attempt, the offenders left in a vehicle which police later located close to the scene.
