CCTV footage shared on Reddit shows an Auckland dairy owner kicking a young man in the chin after an altercation last Saturday.
Police were called to a Karangahape Road dairy in the early hours of January 29, but by the time they had arrived the offenders had left.
The video shows two young men entering the dairy, one of whom seems to be in an angry state.
It's unclear what the two men wanted but when the angry customer approached the older dairy owner yelling at him, the owner climbed on top of the counter.
After a short yelling exchange between the angry customer and the owner, the man tries to throw a punch.
The customer then took a step back and the owner took his opportunity and kicked the young man in the chin, sending his hat off his head.
The offender's friend looks around the shop amused at what is going on in front of him, before grabbing his friend's arm pulling him away.
The offender picks his hat up off the ground and the two men make their way out of the shop.
Police told Newshub no further action was required.
The dairy owner's actions were largely praised on Reddit with one user saying: "Yes! I've had many a convos with this guy. He's from Syria and has seen some shit in his lifetime.
"I always make a point of going to this shop instead of the others haha."
Another asked: "Which shop? I want to go and buy some stuff and support his business."
While another user added his support: "This shopkeeper in particular has always been really lovely anytime I've ever gone in there.
"And from memory, he's from Syria and is in NZ to make a better life for himself and his family.
"So I'm really f*&%^ed off that someone would treat him like that, but seeing him kick him like that is mightily satisfying haha."
