Police cameras have found the remains of two more bodies inside the Pike River mine, taking the total so far to eight.
But the new discovery is in exactly the same place as families claimed a body could be seen in a video they obtained in 2011.
Considering the mine has just been sealed, they are questioning why it has taken police so long to look there.
Vision from a borehole into the mine taken just three months after the 2010 disaster goes down to the same place where police announced on Wednesday that the "redrilling of a borehole has captured evidence of further human remains".
Alan Dixon was working in that area along with Keith Valli and Peter O'Neil. Dixon's family says they want to see the new police images.
Thursday's announcement is devastating for Dean Dunbar, who lost his son Joseph in the mine.
He showed Campbell Live a still from a leaked video, of a body in the same spot, way back in 2011. Newshub has decided not to show the body out of respect for the families
"As you can see here, you can see the feet," Dunbar said in 2011. "His boots, his shin etc. And his thigh, his torso, his upper body, his head slumped down over there."
In Wednesday's official statement, police acknowledged that the leaked video did show a body. Dunbar said he felt "somewhat vindicated".
Anna Osborne, whose husband Milton was killed, believes it is significant the bodies were found near where they were working.
"It does give me some comfort knowing that maybe the first explosion killed all our men and they died pretty soon after," she told Newshub. "So it is giving me some comfort knowing that."
