Gisborne and northern Hawke's Bay are "still in the firing line" for more wet weather, MetService warns.
Its latest severe weather outlook has a low east of Gisborne moving slowly northwestward on Monday before gradually weakening on Tuesday after passing northeast of East Cape and then moving away to the east on Wednesday.
Moist south to southeasterly winds are expected to bring further rain to Gisborne and northern Hawke's Bay during Monday and Tuesday, where a heavy rain watch remains in force between 7am Monday and 9pm Tuesday.
"On Tuesday, we have a moderate confidence (40 percent chance of event occurring) of warning amounts of rain for the Wairoa District and Gisborne," MetService warns.
Meanwhile, a front is forecast to move onto the South Island from the west on Thursday, then moving on Friday followed by a cooler southerly change.
MetService says Fiordland has around a 20 percent chance of getting warning amounts of rain on Thursday.
