Not even the Prime Minister dodged Auckland's storm on Monday.
Jacinda Ardern's street was flooded within minutes and Newshub reporter Adam Hollingworth, who lives down the same road, watched the drama unfold.
Hollingworth's garden became a river and the back bedroom an indoor pond.
'I've never seen it this bad'
The Prime Minister's street at the bottom of a hill became a raging torrent as fast as anyone can remember.
"It literally is our moat, swimming pool - call it what you want today," resident Paul Saggers told Newshub.
Unable to open his garage on Monday and with water creeping up the stairs, the next call for Saggers is the insurance company with photos at the ready.
"I've never seen it this bad before," he said.
Down the road, police officers were attempting to open Ardern's gate - which didn't want to shift.
The next street across it was a similar story. Mandeep Singh had just shipped his wife and eight-month-old son to safety when he spoke to Newshub.
"We are out of [a] house," he said. "We don't have any accommodation right now - so not feeling good."
