The Government on Wednesday announced an almost-immediate move to the orange COVID-19 traffic light setting - with the looser restrictions coming into effect overnight.
At orange, there are fewer requirements for face masks - but they are still mandatory in retail settings despite not having to be worn in hospitality venues and nightclubs.
COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins on Thursday said that "people have to go to the supermarket" - whereas attending a nightclub was a personal choice.
"In terms of supermarkets, one of the reasons they're no longer as risky of an environment as they were previously is because they are wearing masks - and that massively decreases the risk," he told AM.
Do you think masks should still be mandatory in retail settings?
