The Government will announce on Wednesday whether New Zealand - or parts of it - will move to the orange traffic light setting.
If ministers did agree to the shift, it would mean looser restrictions for Kiwis over the long Easter weekend. At orange, there are no indoor gathering limits and fewer requirements for where face masks.
The latest Ministry of Health data shows COVID-19 cases continue to trend downwards - while hospitalisations are also falling.
On Tuesday, 11,063 community cases were reported - with the seven-day rolling average falling to 9731 from 12,785 a week before. The ministry reported 622 people are in hospital and that 16 more people have died with COVID-19.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern last week said the country was "not out of the woods yet" when announcing that New Zealand would stay at red.
"Hospitalisations are not expected to peak in some DHBs until mid to late April. Public health advice tells us now is not yet the time to ease the existing restrictions and drop down to orange. We are doing well, but we’re still in a large Omicron outbreak in New Zealand."
Do you think New Zealand should move to the orange light setting?
