The latest Omicron wave of COVID-19 is still going strong in New Zealand with almost 7000 new cases reported on Friday.
The new cases have dropped slightly on Saturday with the Ministry of Health reporting 6,369 community cases, 13 deaths of people with COVID-19, 362 hospitalisations with six in ICU.
There are no further reports of anyone with the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1

First case of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 was detected on Wednesday in a community case, without a clear link to the border, in Hawke’s Bay from a test result returned on May 10.
Omicron BA.4 and/or BA.5 subvariants detected in wastewater samples at Rosedale on Auckland's North Shore and in Gisborne on Wednesday.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 6,924 – last Saturday, it was 7,972.
COVID-19 deaths
Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 13 people with COVID-19.
These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,140 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 14.
Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; five were from the Auckland region, two were from Canterbury, one was from South Canterbury, one was from Nelson Marlborough, two were from the Wellington region, one was from Bay of Plenty, and one was from Southern.
Two people were their 60s, five were in their 70s, three were in their 80s, and three were aged over 90.
Of these people, five were female and eight were male.
This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them.
Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
