Coronavirus: Latest on COVID-19 community outbreak - Friday, May 6

There are 7347 new community COVID-19 cases and 363 people in hospital, the Ministry of Health revealed on Friday. 

MOH is also reporting 24 deaths, including 12 people who have died over the past three days and an additional 12 people who have died since April 6.

The deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 845 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 15.

One person was from Northland, eight were from Auckland, four were from Waikato, one was from Bay of Plenty, one was from Lakes DHB area, one was from Taranaki, one was from MidCentral, two were from the Greater Wellington region, two were from Canterbury and three were from Southern.

Two people were in their 40s; one in their 50s, one in their 60s; seven in their 70s; eight in their 80s and five were aged over 90. Of these people, 13 were female and 11 were male.

1:05pm - COVID-19 deaths

The deaths being reported today include 12 people who have died over the past three days and an additional 12 people who have died since April 6.

Delays to reporting can be associated with people dying with COVID-19, rather than from COVID-19, and COVID being discovered only after they have died.

These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 845 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 15.

Of the deaths; one person was from Northland, eight from Auckland; four from Waikato; one from Bay of Plenty; one from Lakes DHB area; one from Taranaki; one from MidCentral; two from the Greater Wellington region; two from Canterbury and three from Southern.

Two people were in their 40s; one in their 50s, one in their 60s; seven in their 70s; eight in their 80s and five were aged over 90.

Please note, the Ministry of Health's daily reported cases may differ slightly from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because of different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence. 1:01pm- There are 7347 community COVID-19 cases and 363 people in hospital. The MOH is also reporting 24 deaths.

12:46pm - The Ministry of Health has fined two chiropractors for seeing patients in person while unvaccinated. 

Dr Steven Morse of Timaru was issued with three infringement notices, while Dr Ryno Tope of Hawke’s Bay was issued with one. Each notice carries a fee of $4000.

The Ministry said it is investigating whether other patients may have received treatment.
