COVID-19 cases have dropped in New Zealand for the third consecutive day with 5745 new infections - down from 7068 on Saturday, the Ministry of Health HAS revealed.
Another 15 COVID-19 deaths were recorded on Sunday, which included 13 people who had died over the previous two days and two people who have died since May 7.
Hospitalisations dropped for the first time in three days, down to 384 while there are eight people in ICU or HDU.

1:08pm - The ministry has provided an update on the Omicron outbreak:
Today we are reporting 5,745 community cases, 384 hospitalisations and 15 deaths.
The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers is 7,608 – last Sunday it was 7,510.
Today’s figures are an important reminder to remain vigilant. There are three actions everyone can do to help protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
Firstly – be up to date with vaccinations, including a booster if you’ve not yet had one.
Secondly – wear a mask. Masks are still required in many indoor settings. A good rule of thumb is to wear a mask in indoor public settings as we know that mask use halves the risk of spread of COVID-19.
And thirdly – stay home and avoid others if you’re unwell, isolating or waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test.

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 15 people with COVID-19. The deaths being reported today include 13 people who have died over the past two days and two people who have died since 7 May.
These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 973 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 16.
Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; three people were from the Auckland region; two were from Waikato, one was from Taranaki, two were from the Wellington region, four were from Canterbury and three from Southern.
Two people were in their 50s, one in their 70s; nine in their 80s and three were aged over 90.
Of these people, seven were women and eight were men.
This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this time.
Out of respect, we will be making no further comment.

There are 74 new COVID cases recorded at the border in Managed Isolation and Quarantine.

12:45pm - One of the heads of the Nurses Union says New Zealand's public health system is short 4000 nurses heading into winter.
The system has been stretched to breaking point during the Omicron outbreak and the Ministry of Health is warning the worst may be yet to come.
On Friday, the Director-General of Health, Ashley Bloomfield, said the country could see COVID-19 hospitalisations alone hit 1000 during a predicted peak in the colder months.
Union Kaiwhakahaere Kerri Nuku said due to the Omicron outbreak the public health system has not been able to prepare for an influx of patients over winter.
