Two members of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's United States delegation have tested positive for COVID-19.
Just as Ardern flies back to Washington DC for her White House meetings, two of her closest advisors have tested positive for COVID-19.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chris Seed, and Ardern's chief press secretary, Andrew Campbell, have tested positive for COVID-19.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister said both are isolating in San Francisco.
It means the entire delegation is now a close contact - which in the United States doesn’t mean isolation - but everyone is now monitoring themselves for symptoms that has caused nervousness throughout the camp.
"The rest of the delegations is currently in air and en route to Washington DC," the spokesperson said.
"They produced negative RATS prior to leaving this morning. No one else in the delegation is currently symptomatic."
The Prime Minister is heading back to Washington DC with a pared-back delegation on Monday ahead of meeting President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday.
The spokesperson said no changes have been made to Ardern's scheduled meeting with Biden.
"The New Zealand Embassy in Washington DC is in contact with the White House, but there is no change to meeting arrangements at this stage."
It comes a day after California Governor Gavin Newsom tested positive for COVID-19 after meeting with the Prime Minister.
