A 34-year-old man has been charged after a person was shot in the leg and taken to Southland Hospital.
On Thursday evening, police were called to an address in Invercargill after receiving reports of a firearms incident, resulting in the Armed Offenders Squad being deployed.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird said in a statement:"One person received a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Southland Hospital where they are undergoing treatment for non-life-threatening injuries."
The offender will appear in the Invercargill District Court on Friday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The offender and victim are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
Enquiries are ongoing.
