A 4.7-magnitude earthquake has rattled Paraparaumu near Wellington, GeoNet says.
The quake struck 25km west of Paraparaumu in the lower North Island at 8:13am on Sunday and was 135km deep.
GeoNet described the shaking as "moderate".
At the time of writing, 13,264 people had self-reported to GeoNet as having felt the earthquake. Eight said it felt extreme, four severe, 96 strong, 1783 moderate, 7137 light and 4236 said it was weak.
"Felt in York Bay, quite a jolt with a delayed wee kicker jolt at the end," one Twitter user said of the quake.
"Scared the cat on my knee," another wrote.
