A person is in hospital after a reported stabbing forced Wellington's Tawa College into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the assault happened on Duncan St, where the school is located, at about 2:15pm.
A police spokeswoman told Newshub an investigation was underway to determine exactly what took place.
"One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries," the spokeswoman said.
"The other person involved has been taken into custody."
While the NZ Herald reported the "suspected stabbing" was understood to be gang-linked, the spokeswoman said police did not believe this was the case.
The incident was believed to be isolated and didn't pose a risk to the wider community, the spokeswoman said.
"Contrary to other reports, this was not believed to be gang related," she said.
Tawa College on Tuesday afternoon informed parents of the precautionary lockdown. In a note on its website at 3:45pm, the school confirmed it was no longer in lockdown.
"Please do not contact the college - we will update our community as soon as possible," the note said.
