Police have revealed 22-year-old Christian Eteuati faces a murder charge and a warrant has been issued for his arrest after earlier naming him as a person of interest in the killing of a man on a Mt Albert walkway in Auckland.
Police opened a homicide investigation on Thursday after a local man's body was found near the Roy Clements Treeway at around 6:45pm on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector Chris Barry confirmed police are making enquires into locating Eteuati and are appealing for public assistance in information to help find him.
Police believe a knife was used in the "brutal attack" ad the victim was not known to Eteuati. The victim sustained multiple injuries.
Det Insp Barry said they aren't aware of the suspect having any gang links and refused to comment on whether he has a criminal record.
Det Insp Barry advises the public not to approach Eteuati and to call 111 immediately as he is considered to be "extremely dangerous".
Eteuati is known to have links in the Sandringham and West Auckland areas, and police warn anyone concealing him could be prosecuted.
An increased police presence and a scene guard remains in place in the area.
