A Napier fisherman is the talk of the town after catching a kingfish with a bow and arrow.
Last Thursday, Napier local Faran 'Faz' Lincoln caught a kingfish with an unusual method - bow and arrow.
Lincoln, his brother and his mate came up with the idea to make it a competition to see who could be the first to catch a kingfish.
Lincoln's brother Clint decided it would be a good idea to use a bow and arrow, after multiple attempts at trying to catch one with a normal fishing rod and having no luck.
Lincoln said he had been down at a bridge near Pandora Pond for six months twice a week before he finally caught the kingfish with the strange fishing method.
Lincoln told Newshub he couldn't believe he had actually caught one.
"I was honestly shocked."
He said he thought he was going to have to jump in after it but managed to pull it in - and it didn't even put up a fight.
"Locals were amazed and couldn't believe there were kingfish in the area," Lincoln told Newshub.
The fisherman even caught the attention of the police. On Tuesday before he caught the fish, a local rang up concerned as they had seen, "a crazy man with a bow and arrow on a bridge".
When police asked the fisherman what he was up to, he explained that he was fishing and even showed them some of the fish he had caught the bow and arrow.
Lincoln celebrated his catch by eating the fish and sharing the video of the catch on social media for his friends and family to see.
The fisherman told Newshub it was a "dream come true," to catch the kingfish and jokingly said, "maybe the next fish I will catch with the bow and arrow will be a tuna".
