Heavy rain and thunderstorms have battered much of the country as Metservice warns some areas may still experience flooding.
The forecaster also issued several severe weather warnings. The North Island will bear the brunt of the bad weather with an orange heavy rain warning in place for Northland and the Coromandel Peninsula.
The areas should expect thunderstorms on Monday and potential flooding as the rain causes streams and rivers to rise rapidly.
Auckland is also being battered with a heavy rain watch in place for the city, including Great Barrier Island.
A severe thunderstorm watch is also in place for Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island, Coromandel Peninsula, and the Waikato.
In a warning on Monday afternoon, Waka Kotahi urged motorists to take care when travelling through the Karangahake Gorge after Coromandel was battered with heavy rain.
"Due to excess surface water through the Karangahake Gorge, caution is advised along this route," Waka Kotahi said in a tweet.
"Flooding, falling trees or slips are possible. Please be prepared for hazardous driving conditions: slow down, increase your following distance and keep your lights on."

It comes after Metservice warned downpours and thunderstorms could cause flooding and dangerous driving conditions in the region.
A strong wind watch is also in place for Auckland and Great Barrier Island with severe gales possible in exposed areas.
Meanwhile, a heavy rain watch is in place in Tongariro National Park with Metservice warning rainfall amounts could reach warning criteria levels.
For Gisborne from Ruatoria northwards, an orange heavy rain warning is in place with thunderstorms and flooding possible.
Additionally, the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua are also under an orange rain warning with 120 to 180 mm of rain expected to fall.
While the brunt of the bad weather is hitting the North Island, further south isn't getting off scot-free.
A heavy rain watch is in place for Tasman west of Motueka with rainfall potentially reaching warning criteria.
Moving further south, Fiordland is under a strong wind watch with winds approaching severe gales in exposed places.
Things are expected to start clearing up on Tuesday with the North Island forecast for fine weather and scattered showers in central and southwestern areas. Rain is expected to spread from the west at night before a second storm hits on Wednesday.
From early Wednesday rain is expected, possibly heavy, with thunderstorms followed by showers, especially in the southwest.
Meanwhile, the South Island can expect periods of heavy rain in the west and north on Tuesday. Possible thunderstorms are also forecast in Westland and Buller. Everywhere else can expect fine weather.
Similar weather is expected on Wednesday with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms in the north and west. Everywhere else can expect fine weather with isolated showers in the morning.
