A homicide investigation has been launched by the police after a man found with critical injuries in rural Bay of Plenty later died.
Det Insp Lew Warner said the man was found critically injured at a property in Whakamārama on Sunday night. Despite medical attention, he died at the scene.
Warner said a guard was in place at the scene on Old Highway and an examination was underway.
"Local residents in the rural area will notice an increased police presence as enquiries continue into the circumstances that lead to his death."
Warner said anyone with information was urged to contact police on 105, quoting file number 220613/3065.
