Four young people have been arrested after a daylight car robbery turned violent in Hamilton, leaving one person with injuries to their leg after being deliberately hit by a car.
Police said the incident happened in Rototuna at about 4pm on Tuesday, when an alleged offender was interrupted while interfering with a vehicle in a supermarket car park.
The alleged offender and the victim got into an altercation, when a second offender began assaulting the victim.
Another witness attempted to intervene and a third offender hit them with a car, causing him to fall on the ground and causing injuries to his leg.
Police said the first offender then began to assault the witness as he lay on the ground.
The group of three offenders then fled the scene in a car that had been stolen in Porirua on Monday.
A police spokesperson said information was received shortly before 2pm on Wednesday that the stolen vehicle had been seen in Auckland's Glenfield.
Officers then located the vehicle, which was heading south on Auckland's Northern Motorway before being spiked by police at Pukekohe.
The four people in the vehicle fled on foot but police officers managed to arrest them.
One youth and an 18-year-old female have been charged with aggravated robbery and all four people arrested were charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, the spokesperson said.
The group was due to appear in Hamilton Youth and District Courts on Thursday.
