A historic north Waikato pub has gone up in flames on Sunday morning, which required fire staff from seven different areas to contain it.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said at about 2am, it received multiple calls regarding a building on fire.
When fire crews arrived at the scene of the historic Waipa Tavern in Ngāruawāhia it was "well involved", FENZ said.
About 30 firefighters from seven different areas - including Hamilton and Papatoetoe in Auckland - responded to the blaze.
FENZ said five fire trucks and two ladder trucks responded to the blaze with crews still in attendance monitoring hotspots.
Built in 1917, the Waipa Tavern was previously known as the Waipa Hotel. The original Waipa Hotel was built in 1887 and was also destroyed by a fire, according to the Waikato District Council.
