A 40-year-old man is fighting for his life following a firearms incident at a restaurant in south Auckland.
While many details are still yet to be known, the incident is understood to have unfolded at Stampede Restaurant and Bar on Great South Rd in Papakura.
Police, including some with firearms, are at the scene and a police helicopter has been deployed.
In a statement, police confirmed to Newshub that one person is in a critical condition after the incident, which was reported to them at 12:49pm on Friday.
"One person has subsequently been transported to hospital," the spokesperson said.
"Motorists and the public are asked to avoid the area as there are cordons in place. No further information is available at this stage."
