A Kiwi man has come across the unusual sight of a large number of giant puffballs just out of Christchurch.
The man, who posted a video and photos in the Mushroom Hunting New Zealand Facebook group, said he came across the giant mushrooms two weeks ago.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, told Newshub he found them while exercising in a small roadside area of mixed natives and exotics just out of Rolleston.
"I've seen plenty of giant puffballs as they're quite common in early Autumn, but never in the quantities in the video," he said.
He told Newshub there were about 70 giant puffballs he could see, which ranged in size, with the biggest one being "bigger than a basketball".
"The ones in the video numbered over 20 and ranged in size from a large grapefruit to approx 40cm being the largest," he said.
"I would estimate there would have been 70 or more altogether but I didn't venture far into the undergrowth."
Other members of the group couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the picture, with one person saying: "This is amazing" and another writing, "Best post I've seen yesterday".
