A search warrant is being carried out at the South Island headquarters of the Mongols MC gang.
Police and armed offenders squad units searched the Burnham property south of Christchurch on Wednesday, where the gang's headquarters are located.
A police spokeswoman confirmed to Newshub that a "pre-planned search warrant" was being executed in the area.
An AM reporter at the scene said there was a large police presence in the area and armed officers were standing guard at the pad's entrance.
State Highway 1 at Burnham was earlier blocked in both directions but had since reopened.
Cracking down on New Zealand's gangs is currently a central political topic amid a crime wave that's gripping the country, particularly Auckland. The National Party wants gang patches banned but the Government has rejected the idea.
The Government, instead, was willing to work to accelerate the passing of Firearms Prohibitions Orders (FPOs) legislation through Parliament, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told AM earlier this month.
