Two youths have been charged after allegedly ram-raiding a store in Pukekohe before fleeing from police early on Saturday morning.
Police were called to a ram-raid on King Street at 2:30am when they noticed a car on Karaka Road with recent damage to its rear.
Police tried to stop the car but it fled towards Papakura. The Eagle helicopter was deployed and police managed to stop the car using spikes.
While the car was travelling at low speed, a youth jumped out. He was given medical assistance by officers before an ambulance took him to Starship Hospital in moderate condition. Two other people fled the car on foot but were taken into police custody a short time later.
An 18-year-old male has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, burglary, failing to stop for police, and driving in a dangerous manner. He is due in Manukau District Court on Saturday.
Another youth is due in Youth Court on charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, and burglary.
