An Auckland school has been forced to close for the day after a social media threat was made against two people connected to the school.
Sacred Heart College has told students not to come to school on Wednesday.
The school sent out a text and an email to parents advising them a threat was made through social media against two people connected to the school.
"The police have advised that, given the nature of the anonymous threat, we err on the side of caution and close the school for the day until their investigations are completed," the email said.
"If your son is already at school, please arrange for him to be collected.
"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause you but the safety of students and staff is paramount."
Police said in a statement they are taking the matter seriously and will continue liaising with the school.
"The school has decided to close for the day out of precaution and locals will notice an ongoing police presence in response to this incident," Area Commander Auckland East Inspector Jim Wilson said.
Newshub has contacted the school for comment.
