A manhunt is underway after an Invercargill charity was burgled earlier this month, where thieves stole a freezer full of meat while also taking a van and setting it alight.
Police said in a statement that emergency services were notified of a vehicle fire at Sandy Point at about 6pm on Sunday.
Officers attended and found the fire-damage van had been stolen from a North Rd property between July 6 and 7, police said.
"A large chest freezer full of meat was also stolen from the same property the van was taken from," the statement said.
"The meat was destined to help people in need."
According to the Otago Daily Times, the burgled charity was the local St Vincent de Paul - a global volunteer group that aims to tackle poverty.
Police said it was believed more than one person was involved in the burglary and urged anyone with information to contact 105, quoting file number 220708/1225.
