A 'handful' of people were arrested after a wild brawl broke out in Whangārei on Saturday morning, leaving two people with injuries.
Police said in a statement they were called to Walton Street in central Whangārei at around 10:50am after reports of a large group of people fighting and smashing vehicles.
"In the altercation, a car was driven into pedestrians - one person was seriously injured and another moderately injured," a police spokesperson said.
"A handful of people were arrested, including a youth, and charged with a range of offences, including possession of an offensive weapon and wounding with intent."
The spokesperson said enquiries are ongoing and didn't rule out additional arrests or charges being laid as information comes available.
St John said they were notified about the brawl in Whangārei and responded with two ambulances and one rapid response vehicle.
Two patients treated and transported to Whangārei hospital, St John said.
