A man has been arrested following an aggravated robbery at a jewellery store in Meadowbank Shopping Centre in Auckland on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a 45-year-old man was located at a west Auckland address and taken into custody.
Police also found items allegedly stolen from the jewellery store at the address.
"The man has now been charged with a raft of serious offences," said Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong from the Auckland City Crime Squad.
"Those charges include aggravated robbery, presenting a firearm, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm."
Armstrong said the man will appear in Auckland District Court on Thursday.
Police said two offenders had a gun with them when they entered the jewellery store at just after 1pm on Wednesday, but it was not used.
"The offenders have presented a firearm and made threats, before smashing several cabinets with a hammer," Acting Inspector Matt Child said in a statement on Wednesday.
"No injuries have been reported at this stage and there are no indications the firearm has been discharged."
Police said they cannot rule out further arrests being made over the robbery as the investigation is still ongoing.
"Police would like to acknowledge witnesses at the scene of the aggravated robbery who have assisted our enquiries," Armstrong said on Thursday.
