A man has been charged with murder after shooting a woman dead in west Auckland on Tuesday night.
Detective Inspector John Sutton, Waitematā CIB said police have charged a 34-year-old man with murder.
Police were alerted to reports of a firearm being discharged at an address on Newington Road in Henderson shortly before 9pm.
"On arrival, police located a woman with gunshot related injuries," Sutton said. "Immediate first aid was provided however she sadly died at the scene."
Police said the man is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court on Wednesday.
"While we are in the very early stages of our investigation, we believe this was an isolated incident and the pair are known to each other," Sutton said.
"We want to reassure the community that we do not believe there is a wider risk to the public."
Sutton said cordons were in place overnight and a scene examination will continue on Wednesday.
"As this matter is now before the Court, police have no further comment."
