A man is in custody after a firearms incident in west Auckland, on Friday afternoon.
Police were called after reports a gun was fired on Barry's Road in Glendene at around 3:30pm.
"On arrival, two people have been located deceased at the address," police said in a statement.
The man believed to have been involved was approached by police at a Te Atatū Peninsula address and taken into custody.
He is being spoken to in relation to the two deaths.
Police also said they "understand this was an alarming incident for local residents and we would like to reassure the community that at this stage, we are not seeking anyone else."
Auckland Transport tweeted: "Due to a police incident Barrys Rd in Glendene is CLOSED between Glendene Ave and Glen Marie Pd. Avoid this area or allow extra time for delays and diversions."
The homicide investigation is in its very early stages and police are still asking any witnesses to contact police on 105 quoting 220715/6707.
