Two men have been critically injured in separate incidents in Wellington and Christchurch overnight on Sunday.
In Wellington, emergency services were called after a group of people got into a fight on Dixon Street, near the intersection with Taranaki Street, at about 4am.
One person was transported to hospital in a critical condition and three men, aged 21, 23 and 28, were charged with fighting in a public place.
They are due to appear in Wellington District Court tomorrow.
Meanwhile in Christchurch police were called to a bar on Hereford Street after a person was reportedly assaulted around 1am.
The alleged offender fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim was transported to hospital in a critical condition and enquiries are ongoing.
