New South Wales is battling heavy rain and threats of major flash floods, but New Zealand is not off the hook with the wild weather expected to move across the ditch.
Sydney and surrounding areas of eastern NSW are under a flood watch due to a prolonged period of heavy rain that is expected to last between five to eight days and is threatening to overflow Sydney's Warragamba Dam.
Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe said the flooding could be worse than what was experienced in March, which was one of the nation's worst recorded flood disasters.
"La Nina may have ended but we've still got a lot of tropical moisture feeding across the country and for New South Wales, east coast lows are the most dangerous type of weather system," Sharpe told Sky News.
"There's potential for totals as high as 500mm from this event. If that lands in the Hawkesbury Nepean, the flooding could be worse than what we saw in March."
Australian authorities said they are nervously waiting to see what will happen, meanwhile some of the rain is expected to move across the ditch.
According to WeatherWatch, New Zealand is in for some rainy weather from Tuesday.
"A low and front combination moves in from the Tasman Sea bringing rain to the West Coast, becoming heavy in the afternoon," WeatherWatch said.
The front is expected to move from the South Island to the North Island overnight and bring rain to parts of the North Island on Wednesday.
However, the rain is unlikely to pose a major threat to the country as MetService reports there is a low chance of heavy rain warnings being issued on the West Coast in the North Island and the Nelson/Tasman region.
Monday is expected to bring frosty, settled and mainly sunny weather for most of the country, with rain expected on Tuesday.
According to MetService, Auckland is expected to be fine with a chance of light showers on Monday morning. On Tuesday morning, Auckland can expect a few showers that are likely to turn to rain in the afternoon.
Wellington is expected to have a fine Monday with light winds. However, the weather takes a turn on Tuesday with rain expected in the afternoon.
Christchurch is in for a fine Monday with morning frosts and northeasterlies in the afternoon. Rain is expected to develop on Tuesday afternoon.
