Prepare for another week of unsettled weather as MetService issues weather watches and warnings for both the North and South Islands.
MetService's severe weather map is looking very colourful for the top of both islands with heavy rain and strong winds threatening the country.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty right up through to Northland are under heavy rain and strong wind watches or warnings.
"This is an evolving situation that'll take place over the next couple of days, would not be surprised if it spreads to other areas," a MetService spokesperson told Newshub.
"[It's a] crazy winter."
Northland has been issued with a heavy rain warning from 6pm Sunday - 9pm Monday with 120 to 160 millimetres of rain expected to fall. The region is also under a strong wind watch from midnight Sunday - 4pm Monday, the forecaster expects gales could gust up to 120km/h.
MetService has issued Auckland with a heavy rain watch from 5am Monday - 2am Tuesday. It's also under a strong wind warning from 7am Monday - 2am Tuesday with gusts expected to reach 110km/h in exposed areas.
The Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty have been issued a heavy rain warning from noon Monday - 10am Tuesday, MetService forecasts 120 to 160 millimetres of rain to fall.
The region has also been issued with a strong wind watch from 6pm Monday - 6am Tuesday.
MetService has also issued eastern Waikato with a strong wind watch from 11am Monday - 3am Tuesday.
"As we head into tomorrow almost all of the North Island will see some rain," the MetService spokesperson said.
The northern parts of the South Island haven't avoided MetService's weather watches - Buller is under a strong wind watch from 4pm Monday - 5am Tuesday.
Moving further north, the Tasman area including west of Motueka is under a heavy rain watch from 3pm Monday - 7am Tuesday, MetService warns if rain exceeds the warning criteria the watch may be upgraded to a warning.
The east coast of the South Island, Marlborough, has been issued with a heavy rain watch from 8pm Monday - 3pm Tuesday.
"Quite likely we would see the Canterbury area be added to the heavy rain watch," the spokesperson told Newshub.
"Another unsettled week of weather."
