American billionaire Julian Robertson has died from cardiac complications at age 90.
Robertson developed the world-class golf courses at Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers and owned wineries and lodges across the country.
Despite being from the US, he fell in love with New Zealand after visiting our country over four decades ago.
Robertson was made an honorary knight at the New Zealand Order of Merit for his years of investment in our country.
The philanthropist also gifted 15 paintings to the Auckland Art Gallery. The collection includes works by Picasso, Dali, Matisse and Cezanne and has been valued at $200-$250 million.
Robertson has an estimated net worth of $4.8 billion with his Tiger Management firm, once ranking amongst the world's biggest and most successful hedge funds.
He died at his home in New York.
